Coming/Naked: Rhode Island Poet Jay Walker Premieres New Book and CD Release Party

February 24th brings the debut of “Where I’m Coming From,” from Merry Blacksmith Press, and CD release of “Jay Walker: Naked.” from Jaybird productions

PROVIDENCE, RI – Challenging limitations, Jay Walker hits the ground sprinting with his second book release “Where I’m Coming From” released by Merry Blacksmith press and coupled with the CD release of “Jay Walker: Naked” out of Jaybird St. Productions. A well known performer, writer, and actor, Jay Walker will hold his release party on Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Providence RI at the William Hall Library located on 1825 Broad Street, Cranston, RI. The event will be held from 7:00pm-8:30pm.

His forthcoming book, “Where I’m Coming From” is not a love letter to Rhode Island; it’s a declaration of the status of his “emotional journey to the ultimate destination of peace, love & nakedness for all.” An Edgewood native, Jay Walker returns home with an all star cast of poets that he has met from all corners of Rhode Island including: Kalyana “5th Elament” Champlain, The Duende Project, Jessica Nine-Names Coulter, Rudy Cabrera, Ryk McIntyre, Nataly Garcia, Marlon “Inphynit” Carey, and Yunus Quddus. The event will be DJ’d and Hosted by Reza “Wreckage” Clifton of Venus Sings radio. The overwhelmingly talented cast has come together to support what Champlain calls “A colleague, friend, champion of humanity, and an amazing poet.” The event is supported by Isis Storm, a collective of women artists and media specialists co-founded by Kalyana “5th Elament” Champlain and Reza “Wreckage” Clifton.

Jason E. Walker is also a stage & indie film actor from Rhode Island. He’s been writing poetry – mainly spoken word & haiku/senryū – since high school & getting naked in public, figuratively & literally, since 1993. He’s a three-time finalist for the Providence Poetry Slam® team, making first alternate the third time in ’98; he’s also hosted a few poetry readings in his home state. His first two chapbook publications sold out of their first printing. Jay Walker is currently the Poetry Coordinator for the SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival in Providence every April, the producer for the Providence 48 Hour Film Project in July for the RI Film Collaborative and, just when you think he does enough, also has ULC minister on his résumé.

“This event could not paint a more accurate picture of Jay Walker- a space filled with books, words, and music,” states Champlain adding, “Jay Walker is truly a poet. When I read his words I feel whole, healed, and inspired… His work is directed to the soul and I am grateful to have experienced such art.” Both Clifton and Champlain made Jay the first honorary “Man of the Storm” this past year and are very excited to have him.

The event is open to the public and for mature audiences only. Copies of his newest book, CD, and his first book, the Publish America release “Sifting through the Ashes of Me”, will be available for purchase. There will also be opportunities to donate to/invest in the further artistic endeavors of Jay Walker Performing & Fine Arts.
