Join Isis Storm to Celebrate the Opening of Roots Cafe in Downtown Prov: Sunday, March 6 and All Month Long

Roots Cafe in Downtown Providence Presents Inaugural Events
And Introduces Artistic Director:
Isis Storm Co-founder, Reza “Rites” Clifton

Providence, RI – Providence Inner City Arts (PICA) announces a first-look at The Roots Café, the newest venue in Downtown Providence for live music and unique performances, at a gala fund raising event on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 2-6pm, 276 Westminster Street, Providence, RI 02903. Tickets are $50 at the door and reservations can be made by calling 401-272-7422 or by emailing All funds raised will support PICA, a not-for-profit community arts organization that has hired Reza Clifton, co-founder of Isis Storm, to serve as Artistic Director of The Roots Café.

Headlining is the great Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, one of the most exciting zydeco groups in the country. Sweet P, a blues band with roots in Providence, will also take center stage. In addition to the great music and dance, Cajun-style food and drinks will spice up the afternoon. The crowd will be alive with swiveling hips, fancy footwork, spontaneous stylings, and goofy grins. It will be hard to keep your shoes on! Food, two drinks per person, and door prizes are included. Parking for the fund raising event is available at no charge at In Town Parking, 122 Mathewson Street, across from the Hotel Providence, one block from Roots Café.

Following the benefit, Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners will perform an additional set, from 7-10. Tickets to this event are $20 (admission is included in the $50 benefit ticket).

Additional music during the inaugural period include: March 8 – Mardi Gras with the local live Cajun band, Magnolia; March 11 and 18 – Home Grown Hip Hop 2-part series with DJ Therion and (March 11) lyrical performances plus live band by Isis Storm Co-founder 5th Elament, Tem Blessed with the band Blessed Energy, and Dirty Durdie and (March 18) Chachi and Isis Storm member B-Mor 7; March 19 –Swaggerific, a special night of dancehall Reggae, Soca and Hip-Hop featuring Boston’s #1 Selecta Junior Rodigan alongside area reggae promoter Dr. TKO and other special guests; and Pecha Kucha Providence on Wednesday, March 30 – a Two-Year Anniversary Party for the local chapter of a phenomenon that started in Tokyo in 2003.
