On Sunday, May 8th, Mother’s Day, MergingArts presents the “mother” of all animation festivals, the third annual Womanimation! at Providence Inner City Arts’ Roots Cafe on 276 Westminster Street, Providence, RI, from 2-6pm.

An international celebration of women in animation, this year’s edition features 10 acclaimed animated short film stories created by women around the world, integrated with sets of music from women locally and globally: mother/daughter Swedish folk music duo Astrid Drew, spoken word poetry and hip hop by 5th Elament and DJ Reza Wreckage of the RI women’s art collective, ISIS Storm, and soundscapes and global grooves spun by DJ Madame B.

Join me, J9, aka Jessica9Names, as I host a one of a kind night of Poetry on May 26 celebrating “Native Tongues and Spoken Word:” a Native Language (English and non-English) open mic followed by and a special feature with Bilingual Poets!

This is going to be an evening of creating artistic and cultural bridges, (after all what ties us together as community is our ability to be creative.) Now, me, I only speak Native Newportah, and Rhode Islandah, and so Ill bring some Kaufee milk, maybe some quohog shells, host, and hear all the beauty that is within the voices of our great community. But I want to hear you!
